Darren Patterson Christian Academy filed a lawsuit against the state officials in Colorado because they said that they were being discriminated against because of their religion. Fortunately, a federal district court ruled that they would be able to participate. The lawsuit was filed in June. The school stated that they were told that they would have to hire people who did not share their beliefs and use gender inclusive language.

ADF represented Darren Patterson Christian Academy in the lawsuit. They program guarantees that every four-year-old could spend at least 15 hours per week and have it funded by the government. The organization stated that the school is being asked to choose between their religious beliefs and participating in the program.

Jeremiah Galus is the senior counsel for the Alliance Defending Freedom. He stated that the government should not be allowed to force schools to give up their religious beliefs in order to use a public program. He stated that this is something that has been affirmed by the Supreme Court several times this year.

Darren Patterson Christian Academy has helped families for the past 40 years. Jeremiah stated that the preschool program that Colorado has is important for many families. Additionally, he stated that discrimination based on religious beliefs violates First Amendment rights.

The school stated that they will accept any child from any background regardless of their religious beliefs. However, the Colorado Department of Education was trying to get the school to hire people who did not share the same faith. They also pushed the school to hire people who believed in preferred pronoun usage and using restrooms that did not correspond to their gender.

Darren Patterson Christian originally asked for an exemption, but it was denied. Fortunately, they can now participate in the program thanks to the hard work of Alliance Defending Freedom.
