Olugbenga Agboola is a software engineer and entrepreneur. He previously worked for Microsoft and IONA Technologies before co-founding a premier mobile applications development company, Apptivity Labs Inc. Olugbenga has recently been selected as a finalist in the Seattle Business Magazine 30 Under 30 in 2018.
Olugbenga has a highly diverse background with expertise in software engineering, business strategy, and marketing. His experience gives him great insights into creating innovative products that help people do their best work anywhere.
Olugbenga Agboola was born in Nigeria, but his family moved to Seattle, WA, when he was a child. He grew up in the International District of Seattle, one of the most racially diverse neighborhoods in the U.S. The neighborhood has fostered Olugbenga’s appreciation and respect for cultural diversity and inclusion. He is very passionate about social justice and has been involved with community initiatives such as the Black Lives Matter movement and local voter registration drives.
Olugbenga attended Garfield High School, where he learned the value of hard work and entrepreneurship. He founded a successful student startup company, becoming one of the country’s most highly sought out. He was voted Most Valuable Player in his senior year.
After high school, he interned at Microsoft and was offered a full internship a year later. He worked on web computing and user interface for Microsoft system software using Delphi Automation and C++ programming languages. He also worked on the Xbox Live Ad Platform for Microsoft. He helped develop a voting platform for the company’s internal elections. He was voted the most valuable player in his department and won a trip to attend the annual Microsoft Employee Productivity Awards.
As a software development engineer, he got to know and help support IONA Technologies during his tenure at Microsoft. The company was looking for talented engineers in Seattle, and Olugbenga was one of their top picks. He joined IONA in 2007 as the first software developer for their Prime Financials product. He was promoted to lead a team and eventually manage the engineering division of IONA. In 2012, he was promoted to Vice President of Engineering and led teams on a global scale with offices in New York, Seattle, London, Frankfurt, and Australia.
Working at IONA had a profound impact on Olugbenga directly and indirectly. It taught him to take pride in his work and be able to stand by it. He developed leadership skills rapidly that have helped him become a successful entrepreneur.
Olugbenga also had an entrepreneurial spirit from a young age. His first business venture was created in middle school, where he would buy candy and resell it at a profit on campus. This early experience has translated into becoming an incredible businessman and leader.
Olugbenga Agboola is currently the CEO of Apptivity Labs Inc., based in Seattle, WA. Apptivity is a mobile application company that focuses on building award-winning applications for enterprises.
Olugbenga founded the company to create and develop innovative mobile applications that solve real-world problems. Their first product, VoterHub, was designed to help legislators and staff streamline the process of tracking bills through the legislative process through text message reminders and notifications.
