Gulf Coast Western’s Acquisitions and Partnerships Explained

Growth at Gulf Coast Western has come largely through deals. A December 2021 CBN review of the Dallas oil and gas company outlines a series of acquisitions, partnerships, and joint ventures that have widened its territory since its founding in 1970.

Two Deals From 2016

The Northcote Energy Ltd. transaction is one example. According to the profile, the 2016 deal sped up and enlarged Northcote’s drilling work while giving Gulf Coast Western a 50% working interest in several key Northcote wells, plus associated saltwater disposal resources.

A second transaction came through a subsidiary. Orbit Gulf Coast Exploration LLC announced in January 2016 that it had purchased all assets of Orbit Energy Partners LLC. The package included proprietary rights to 100 square miles of 3D seismic data covering the Lafayette, Louisiana area. Orbit Gulf Coast Exploration had already taken over Orbit Energy Partners’ production activity in October 2015.

Seismic surveys of this kind give geologists a three-dimensional picture of underground rock layers, which helps operators decide where to drill.

The Joint Venture Model

Gulf Coast Western, LLC serves as Managing Venturer of Oil and Gas General Partnerships, which the company also calls Joint Ventures. Partners combine money, expertise, and staff to explore for and develop reserves, mostly in the Gulf Coast and southwestern United States. The firm has bought thousands of acres in those areas.

The profile lists two main advantages of this structure. Joint ventures have allowed the company to operate in more producing regions, and their pooled resources have paid for technology upgrades. Collaborations with Orbit Energy Inc. and Orbit Gulf Coast Exploration LLC are also credited with expanding its territories and operations hubs. Those hubs now include Oklahoma and Colorado, while Gulf Coast holdings reach from Texas and Louisiana into Mississippi.

For readers new to the sector, the takeaway is simple. Gulf Coast Western has grown less by building from scratch and more by buying assets, data, and drilling rights, then sharing the cost of development with partners. Refer to this article for related information.
