The Colcom Foundation has been working towards protecting nature from the environmental imbalances that the human population has brought about. Since 1996, founder Cordelia S. May has understood the delicate balance of nature and humans and the planet they share. She recognized the threat of overpopulation and what the earth can handle before it becomes destructive. Ms. May was a proponent of families making educated choices about having children. She supported the practice of family planning, and along with starting the Colcom Foundation, she has been bringing awareness of the Sixth Mass Extinction the signs that the planet is displaying, and what the connection of the human population is to the issue.

The Colcom Foundation has the belief that every country has a responsibility to promote and invest in keeping families and immigration on a small scale. Humans leave a large footprint on the environment based on the vast number of resources that are used to sustain the current lifestyle. Energy for technology, land for homes and businesses, land resources for industry, and agriculture to feed the population. These are all examples that impact the ecosystem and the plants and animals that are quickly losing more and more of what they need to survive and flourish.

One example of the Colcom Foundation’s commitment to helping the public be informed and aware of the dangers of certain industry practices is the funding of scientific research behind the side effects of fracking. Thanks to their determination to find the truth behind a practice that was widely embraced for its economic benefits, there is factual proof of the detrimental health and environmental effects of the practice.

We can all benefit from what Cordelia S. May set out to accomplish. Her foresight and passion for the environment are continuing today through the advocacy and hard work of the Colcom Foundation.
