Yubo’s Live Broadcast Options

It is a widely used social live broadcast app among Generation Z, announced  that it was extending its audio monitoring capabilities to peer-to-peer live broadcasts on iOS and Android devices. Yubo, which means “right now” in Mandarin, was launched in 2015 by the San Francisco based company. The app officially went into public beta on August 5, 2016. As of October 2016, it has over 100 million downloads worldwide. It connects users to strangers with similar interests that are broadcasting live from all around the world 24 hours a day for up to 12 hours per account (due to restrictions). It was created as a safer alternative for teens and young adults to chat with each other at tough times like school lunchrooms or during quiet study time at home.

Yubo’s live broadcast options are open to everyone and can be limited by age, gender, audience and region. Commenters can also leave tips for broadcasters with “virtual gifts” in the form of hearts or coins.

Yubo video and audio monitoring technologies are powered by the company’s proprietary AI technology that tracks keywords and alerts both Yubo and law enforcement authorities when inappropriate or harmful content is detected. The service is already available on the regular Yubo app; however live audio monitoring is only available on special devices called Yubos (which are similar to Apple’s old iPod nano) that are purchased exclusively by users over 18 years of age.

The devices will be equipped with a new application that allows users to hear audio and chat on live streams.

In February 2017, Yubo launched a new feature called “Stream Chat”. This feature gives users the ability to communicate using swipe-to-type technology. After over one year of development and testing, Stream Chat was reviewed and praised by professional language teachers for its potential in helping students learn English as a second language.
