Shelton Haynes attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (1991). Haynes also received his Master of Business Administration in Management from N.Y.U. in 1993. He is an Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity member and the National Urban League’s Board of Directors. Haynes is also a member of the National Action Network (NAN).

2. Professional Career

Haynes began his professional career after graduating with his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1991). During his collegiate career, he was a team manager for the Men’s basketball team. Additionally, he worked as a special assistant to two state representatives in North Carolina.

As the C.E.O. of CUMC, Haynes oversees the largest private employer in New York City. He manages funds for health care services, academic programs, and research at CUMC. He has also led the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation and Columbia University Medical Center.

At the University of North Carolina, Haynes was also a Student Government and Graduate Public Affairs Association member. He served as the national philanthropy chair for Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and was a trustee for the Urban League for 25 years (2001-2018).
