Kelcy Warren, the youngest of three boys, was born in Texas in 1995. In an interview, Kelcy praised his incredible father for making time for his family. His parents were working people; his dad dug ditches for an oil firm, while his mom worked at a department store. The encouragement of his father to work and save money inspired Kelcy L Warren to begin working when he was only 12 years old, and as he grew older, Kelcy Warren concentrated on oil-based occupations. Warren’s determination to succeed in school paid off, and he was encouraged by his guidance counselor to study engineering. Warren attended the University of Texas at Arlington using the money he had saved up from when he was a teenager (UTA). Kelcy Warren had a rough start to his college career, but he matured and made amends, so UTA welcomed him back. After taking some time off, he was eager to make the most of his second chance.

One of Warren’s engineering professors, Dr. Syed Qasim, suggested that Warren and his fellow students apply for a student scholarship to participate in a National Science Foundation-funded research project. he was awarded the top prize and scholarship upon application, both of which served as inspiration and evidence of his aptitude in civil engineering. In 1978, after graduation, He began working for Lone Star Gas Company as one of their pipeline design engineers.

Soon after, he and a business partner purchased Endevco, a firm specializing in energy development. After selling Endevco, which Kelcy renamed Cornerstone Natural Gas, Warren started Energy Transfer with a business partner.
