Every Young Person Can Succeed

A child’s socioeconomic background should not be an impediment to obtaining a post secondary education nor should it prevent them from becoming a successful and productive citizen. Across the country policies that deny certain children the chance to realize their full potential need to be reformed. These two ideas form the core of Success Academy’s mission statement.

There are no students enrolled in Success Academy’s 41 schools across New York City. Instead, there are 14,000 “scholars” benefitting from the Academy’s innovative approach to education.

Success Academy takes a holistic approach to education. At the elementary level, teachers and school leaders consult on a scholar’s “academic and social emotional welfare” to guarantee that each scholar moves seamlessly through the different phase of their education.

At this level, the foundation is laid upon which to build each scholar’s success. More than basic knowledge Success Academy’s elementary program teaches critical thinking and shows scholars how to be independent people who can stand up for their own best interest.

Universally recognized college ready standards form the heart of Success Academy’s Middle school program. At this stage of their lives, adolescence, scholars are beginning to develop abstract thinking skills. To assist with the development of abstract thinking skills Success Academy offers electives that encourage education through experimentation, creativity, self-awareness, and independence. Electives include but are not limited to; debate, musical theater, robotics, and sports.

The involvement of their families is essential to a scholar’s academic success. During the High Schol years, Persistence Counselors and scholars parents work together to ensure that scholars attend the college that is right for them. To ready scholars for their post secondary education, they are taught critical thinking, problem-solving, academic writing, and public speaking.

During High School, learning takes place both in out of the classroom. Scholars may avail themselves of internships, the chance to travel abroad, as well as college and summer programs.
